Unless you are Scottish, thistle gets maligned since some species are considered noxious. But native species are another matter. The hills around our house are filled with elk thistle which are not only sublime looking but also serve as a pollinator paradise. So I decided to celebrate this hard working native in a painting, which we adapted to our square cotton scarves.
