A 2019 New York Times article on global avian decline inspired Isa to paint a series of endangered bird portraits to raise awareness of vulnerable birds. The Mangrove Cuckoo is the fifth in the series and is a rare sighting along Florida’s southern coast. Habitat decimation and climate change have all but pushed this species out of the United States.
When I was nine a family friend gave me The Nothing Book. I carried it everywhere and this habit became permanent — I am never without my journal.
