My mother knew that scarves were great fashion hacks. She was a classic southern lady in one sense: she took sartorial care with her public appearance, and always had a scarf to punctuate her outfit. Scarves are also a great way to streamline your closet without straining the bank or the planet by endlessly refurbishing your wardrobe. I wanted to design a departure from the standard paisley or the basic floral repeats.
In 1999 I took a trip to Morocco. The textures, the colors, the bustle and the desert were constant sources of inspiration. This pattern was inspired by colorful striped bowls in the Marrakesh souk. This is inspired by one of several line paintings I made in response to the famous plein air market.
