Each bird starts as a painting, along with hand-designed borders inspired by the bird’s native habitat. This border was inspired by the colors of the Gunnison Basin. Pattern Story

I have started a new series in an uncharacteristic style for me. I tend towards abstraction but shifted to a more representational approach for this particular project. After reading about the global catastrophic decline in avian species last year, I started to sketch and research birds to increase my connection and knowledge. The Gunnison Sage-Grouse, or Centrocerus minimus, is often confused with the Greater Sage Grouse, but this bird has been accepted as its own species due to its smaller stature and restricted range. It resides only in Western Colorado and Utah. Habitat encroachment has diminished their numbers to around 4,600.

Product Story

We are a nation of schleppers — our stuff seems to go where we go — and most of us have a tote bag or two. I find them indispensable. I use totes for everything. I have a tote filled with dog walk necessities. The family car emergency kit is stashed in yet another bag. Another tote even houses my household’s stray socks — I am an optimist when it comes to stray socks. Why are our bags different? We wanted our bags to have some additional flourishes. Each bag has a List-it notebook pocket and a zipped pocket for your phone, keys, or wallet so it can pivot from your extra bag to your MAIN bag.  This way you will never get caught without something to write down that key bit of inspiration.
