Years ago, I read about the legend of Sun Wukong or the Monkey King. The narrative has many twists, but ultimately it is a tale of adventure and transcendence. My take on the Monkey King is a studio favorite, and I adapted an iconic William Morris pattern for the background. Watercolor is a fickle medium, so painting freestyle from an intricate design with numerous repeats took all of my attention and helped me appreciate all of the lyricism embedded in good wallpaper design. The Monkey King was originally created as a mixed media collage, fine art piece from Isa Catto Studio.
