Steller's Jay
The Steller’s Jay is a distinguished resident of our high alpine landscape and an easy bird to identify. He sports an impressive crest and striking indigo and black plumage. The jay is also a trickster who loves mimicking the bird calls of other species. He stays west of the Rockies and is tough enough to stick around for our winters. I’ve always liked this bird’s moxie, so he flew onto our notebooks. If you are a Roaring Fork Valley resident, this notebook’s proceeds also support our regional conservation group — the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. I think the Steller’s Jay would approve.
