We partnered with @aspenmusicfest to produce limited edition prints via @singereditions. We are donating 40% of each print sale to classical music education at AMF. Here’s the story behind the composition: 🎶 I assigned a color to each note in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ode to Joy for the Aspen Music Festival’s celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday. The color palette was inspired by summer's past and present listening to music on the great lawn outside of the tent. I started my composition with an informal grid to suggest a sheet of music. In order to emphasize the variation within each note and color, I gave each its own mark and saturation, so an individual note is a painting within itself. For example, the note A was inspired by aspen bark; E belongs to the wild grasses and C# is the mature olive green that rests in stem and leaf. 🎶 We have sold 11 and have 4 left. During the pandemic I realized that I’d lost the art of play — just aimless, non-transactional goofing off. I live in a valley that loves to recreate and (most) everyone is in enviable shape, but playing for playing sake seems to be a quaint notion that belongs to young children. I intend to change that in my own life, but we decided to bring more products into play, so to speak. Our kid's smocks keep you out of the laundry room and playing alongside your kids. So here’s the pattern inspiration. I fill my sketchbook with thumbprint drawings, and this pattern came from a collection of familiar garden plants. The cloverleaf is iconic and the color comes via the pink-red cliffs all over our valley. Go to the link in bio to view the rest of our Kid’s Activity Smocks.">
