Ours was quiet —I caught up on some reading and prepared for the calm before the holiday studio shipping frenzy. I love winter and snow and shadows and the pause in the growing season. But I do struggle with the long nights and less daylight. The best defense is to plant bulbs. Lots of them. They store well in a paper bag and with a little 💗 they come back to light up our house. It works every time.">

You started your path with a flair for drama and it never quit you. It makes sense that you are a magician and a tireless advocate for social justice. Happy Birthday beloved @duncan_h_a_shaw. We hate not being able to spend this day with you but here’s to a celebration when you get home. I sure do miss that ready laugh! #mothersandsons #sonshine">

A pair of red tails live nearby and their favorite perch is in our tallest spruce. Early one morning I found a dead Cooper’s hawk not far from the base of this spruce. I picked it up and saw that it had a broken neck. I returned a half hour later to re-examine him, but the carcass was gone. My friend was sitting right above me giving me the stink eye. Red tails will kill other hawks but I had never seen proof of this. Needless to say I didn’t linger.">

I miss writing letters. This is my own fault — I have defaulted to email and texts. Letter writing is an art form that has waned thanks to our 8 billion choices when it comes to communication — from IG messaging, to TikTok videos, to WhatsApp to good old fashioned email. Our endangered birds cards might tempt you to restore the joy of executing a thoughtful notecard, a penned envelope and a good stamp. Each card has a different endangered bird on the front, but the design extends to the back of the card with salient details on each species to further raise awareness. Link in bio or tap photo.">
