Postcard from Colombia
I am currently in Colombia with my family cramming as much in as we possibly can between Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena. Traveling tilts you off axis, which to my mind, is a very good thing. Our family becomes more intimate as we push into close quarters and lean on each other for company. I have the time and inspiration to journal and sketch, and sometimes my kids join me. I read without interruption — almost. We all look up and look around. On this trip, I’ve learned that my Spanish needs serious improvement, that my waistline will soon need serious improvement, and that my visual vocabulary has been vastly improved by the color and vibe of this sprawling country. I have been floored by the generosity of spirit we have experienced, and heartened by a collective light that has not been diminished in a country shredded by decades of violence. Hospitality and goodwill abound. Here are some snapshots:
