Butterfly Effect

On June 4, 2024 we lost our daughter Bailey to extreme fentanyl poisoning. My family and I have been navigating the crushing grief, trauma, and horror with the help of love, community, therapy, and family. But art has, once again, come to my rescue. I started using my Substack writing as a compass to help me traverse this new terrain while honoring Bailey by making small mixed-media featuring butterflies. Butterflies were a logical choice — beautiful and fleeting like she was — but they also represent immortality, the souls of the departed, and reinvention across a myriad of cultures.

And there’s also the Butterfly Effect – the notion that a small action can have an enormous impact further down the line. One hundred percent of your butterfly purchase will go into Bailey’s memorial fund and donated to non-profits supporting social justice, mental health awareness, LGBTQ vulnerabilities, and fentanyl advocacy.

When I first offered these for sale, I didn’t think they would fly quickly out of the studio. I was thrilled to be wrong and have added a dedicated Butterfly Effect shop to get more of these out in the world, to keep Bailey’s vibration moving that much longer, and to keep giving.

Garden to Table

This year the vegetable garden will be put to work. Federal programs incentivizing farmers to donate produce to food banks have been eliminated, impacting food security in our valley and beyond. So, to support our local food pantries we decided to grow more to give more.
